"Saba lives in Silverlake, a wasteland ravaged by constant sandstorms where her family scavenge from landfills left by the long-gone Wrecker civilization. After four cloaked horsemen kidnap her beloved twin brother Lugh, she teams up with daredevil Jack and the Free Hawks, a girl gang of Revolutionaries.
Saba learns that she is a fierce fighter, an unbeatable survivor, and a cunning opponent. And she has the power to take down a corrupt society from the inside. Saba and her new friends stage a showdown that change the course of her civilization."

Blood Red Road was written in unique prose that revealed cultural aspects about its main character, Saba. Saba lives in a world of dustlands, where storms are frequent and adversity is common. Saba has lost her mother long ago and has never lived in the best of conditions, but nothing prepares her for the day on which her brother is kidnapped. She will not stop until she rescues him - and she is almost animalistic in this brutal determination.
I really value the importance that this novel places on family bonds, and what its characters are willing to do for those they love. The development Saba undergoes in regards to her little sister is remarkable, and written carefully. There's plenty of action and light heartedness as the story unravels, the latter generally coming in the form of Jack. Jack is witty, sarcastic, rugged, and loyal. His interactions with Saba had me laughing and, well, ultimately 'shipping' them.
The novel closes perfectly, with a reference to the beginning, clear character development, and questions to be answered. I can't wait to read its sequel.
